Cabbagetown Residents Association spreading word about free tree program

The following is an article that was written and posted by Justin Skinner on insideToronto.com.  Direct link here With concerns arising over downtown’s dwindling tree canopy, the Cabbagetown Residents Association (CRA) is encouraging residents to get a free tree through a City of Toronto program. The CRA, formerly known as the Don Vale Cabbagetown Residents Association, has started a tree canopy committee and has canvassed the neighbourhood in hopes of getting people to allow a new tree to be planted on their properties. A campaign began in earnest in the spring and now the committee is reaching out once again …

Minutes from Cabbagetown South General Meeting

The Cabbagetown South Association met yesterday evening at Ontario Restaurant with guests including Glen McMurray and Sean McIntyre from Pam MacConnell’s office to provide some back ground on what’s taking place on the political front to help achieve the associations mandates.  I was stuck in a meeting and got to the resturant a bit late at which point Glen was just finishing up his update hence I’m sorry to report that I don’t have much to report there.  Following is what was discussed while I was in attendence: Drover Lane:  There was fire in one of the houses in Drover’s lane three …

My home buying experience – Showings

Have you ever liked a home that you’ve just seen on your first trip and can’t prove liking it without going out again to see other houses? I’m dealing with it now! If I had a real estate agent, I would force him or her to take me out and see other places just because, “we have just started looking!”  I know why I have this feeling. I enjoyed the home search process It gave me time to spend with my PIC where we aren’t thinking about groceries or dog walks or work etc… We spent a better part of …

My home buying experience

I’m starting a new home search! This will not be the first home I’ve ever bought but it’s definitely a first experience to buying a home to live in exclusively. I’ll explain! The first home that I ever bought was with my brother and the family was to be living in it. We still own that house in Brampton and the purchase process was quiet unique. We are a big family with six siblings and though my two sisters were happily married and living in their own homes, my mother insisted that it be a big enough home where they …

Meeting with Central Neighborhood Park « Friends of Winchester Park

What a great meeting! I was worried that this meeting is going to become an us vs. them showdown and  we won’t be able to get mutual understanding of the issues but I’m happy to report that it went beyond our expectation. Our objective going into the meeting was to highlight the issues we are facing in the area that we have discussed in earlier posts and see if we can get them to open the floor up for us to be heard.  Central Neighborhood House was very gracious in providing the space and even food for all their guests. …

Friends of Winchester Park

I’m a fan of outdoor space and a believer is community. I moved into Cabbagetown in 2010 and while I had done business here before, I never really understood what the neighborhood was all about.  My move here helped me realize the friendly, familiar faces on the streets and at the dog park as a constant reminder that I live in a lively, vibrant and connected neighborhood.  Having said that, there are areas in the neighborhood that need some love from all of us.  One of these area is our beloved Winchester Park which runs between Carlton to Prospect just …
